In this first of a two-part mashup series, TFLcar finally gets behind the wheel of the 2016 Subaru WRX STi as it goes against the Volkswagen Golf R.
This was originally supposed to be a three-part mashup review with the BMW M2, but unfortunately the video for that one got corrupted in another smite from the video gods.
The 2016 WRX STi is the hopped-up version of Subaru’s new WRX line, which they separated from the Impreza line from which it was spawned a few years ago. It has a 2.5-liter turbocharged flat four that makes 305 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque going to, as in all Subarus, all four wheels. The test car is mated to a slick, short-throw six-speed transmission that is great for quick shifting, like for on a track.
For such a sporty car, it gets credible gas mileage. It’s rated at 17 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined. The MSRP is $39,790, a bargain for this amount of performance.
Check out the full video above, and stay tuned for part two, where Nathan and Roman drive the Golf R.
