Ford will make a limited run of 2015 Shelby Mustang GT350s to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Shelby Mustang.

The new Shelby Mustangs will come in two models, the GT350 and the GT350R. Although Ford hasn’t released any specifics, they said that the engine in the GT350 will be the most powerful non-turbo Ford production engine in the company’s history.

Ford will make 100 examples of the GT350s with a 2015 VIN. There will be 50 with the technology package and 50 with the track package. Production will then switch to 2016 models.

For the GT350R, Ford will limit the amount produced to a mere 37, the same as the original GT350R, which was an FIA-homologated version of the GT350. Although records indicate that only 34 production GT350Rs were produced, Carroll Shelby insisted that a total of 37 were made – two prototypes and 35 production cars.

The original Shelby GT350 first went into production in 1965.

Ford gave no details on when the 2015 Shelby Mustangs will go on sale.
