Telsa and Toyota partner to build electric cars in California

Automotive insiders were skeptical that Tesla could build their new Model S four door sedan in two years…after all Tesla didn't even have a factory to build the car.

Tesla certainly seems to be proving them wrong by partnering with Toyota to build the upcoming all electric model S at the recently closed NUMMI factory in Fremont, CA.

Tesla1 California gov Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda announced the new partnership which will mean that Toyota will invest $50 million for a private placement of Tesla common stock and the state of California will provide about $20 million in tax benefits to Tesla to to build the car in California.

More importantly for Tesla perhaps is that the California company which currently only build the Telsa Roadster will get not only a car factory but Toyota's expertise in building a mass production sedan.

According to Tesla the new partnership means that the NUMMI factory will eventually rehire about 1000 workers to build the Model S.
