The redesigned Ford Mustang is having great sales success in 2015 in the United States. Ford sold 9,456 Mustangs in September, which was 4,210 more than the Chevy Camaro. The Mustang also more than doubled the number of Challengers sold one the same period.
The outgoing 2015 Chevy Camaro had a positive month, but it is -11.9% down in Year-To-Date (YTD) numbers. The all-new 2016 Camaro is coming on sale within the next two months. There will be the expected model change-over sales dip, but the smaller and lighter 2016 Camaro should hold its own against the Mustang and the Challenger.
The Dodge Challenger is showing healthy growth (35% in YTD numbers), boosted by the presence of the Hellcat and the recent 2015 model year refresh.
Ford says that one of the secrets behind the Mustang success is the availability of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. The powerful turbo is bringing younger buyers, conquest buyers from other brands, and growing sales in Southern California. These are all very positive metrics for the Mustang.
