Part of VW’s appeal to potential ID. Buzz buyers is a widening range of custom options.

It’s been years in the making, but U.S. customers will finally begin taking deliveries of the electric ID. Buzz this fall. Beyond just offering the van itself as a quirky and fun alternative to your everyday crossover (like the ID.4), though, Volkswagen is offering a new customization option as it celebrates the second “International Bus Day” this upcoming Sunday, June 2. Through a collaboration with Wrapmate, buyers can incorporate a custom-designed wrap onto their Buzz to make it stand out that much more from the crowd.

To launch the program, VW debuted a “Love the Earth” design by Bob Hieronimus, who recreated the “Light Bus” from Woodstock 1969 (shown below). This wrap expresses the phrase “Love the Earth” in 25 different languages, and is meant to promote “the importance of global unity as a pathway to a more loving relationship with the Earth”, according to the automaker’s statement.

Whether you agree with that sentiment or consider it a bunch of hippy, drippy nonsense, it does at least somewhat track with the spirit that embodied the old Type 2 Microbuses. And, if you don’t care to have that phrase plastered all over your Buzz, you’ll be able to design your own theme through Wrapmate’s 3D configurator starting on June 2.

All these custom wraps will be made of 3M vinyl, and buyers can have them installed at any of Wrapmate’s 2,000 certified installers across the U.S.

Those who configure their wraps can actually order it this fall, when the ID. Buzz is set to actually launch as a 2025 model. You’ll be able to order the wrap online through Wrapmate or through participating Volkswagen dealers.

At the moment, it’s still unclear exactly how much this custom wrap treatment will cost, but we’ll come back and update this post once we have that information.
