A tiny 4×4 Jeep that challenges Suzuki?
You read that correctly: Jeep is going to build a tiny 4×4 to compete against the Suzuki Jimny. This vehicle will be Jeep’s entry-level model in Europe and will slot under the Renegade. So far, no statements have been made about the possibility of this Jeep being sold in North America, but it would be a nice gesture, wouldn’t it?
The Suzuki Jimny is red-hot overseas. Its lauded for its capability, utility, looks and affordability. Sales are excellent. The fact that many Americans want that vehicle sold here, hopefully Jeep will keep our market in mind too.
Details are slim; however, Marco Pigozzi, Jeep’s European Head of Brand Marketing, gave reporters from AutoExpress UK some tantalizing information.
He says it’s “ultra compact” with a length of four meters.
“The car will be able to be used as a bad-ass Jeep, but it has also been designed to be used everyday.” – – Marco Pigozzi
There is a chance that it could be an EV or a PHEV. This is similar to what Jeep Europe has done to the Renegade and Compass. Although there is no word on driveline components. Pigozzi said, “We have the capability to deliver the electrification we need.” According to reports, it is due to launch in Europe in 2022.
We would LOVE to see something off-road capable, affordable and as awesome as the new Suzuki Jimny. Will this tiny Jeep be capable enough to hit our favorite trails in Moab? Will it even come here? We’re keeping a close eye on this story!
