We’ll see it in person later this week.
Volkswagen is undergoing a transformation, from its future electrified lineup to its new corporate logo. Apart from the new VW badge shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the company just revealed another one. This is Volkswagen’s new “R” logo for its high-performance model. Things like the Golf R and even the R-Line range of spiced up mainstream cars like the Passat and Atlas.
Looking at the two logos side-by-side, it’s clear Volkswagen’s new approach leans on style. The letter itself is more streamlined, while the box behind the letter has been removed. Upon first glance, its a logo some people could mistake for Volvo’s R logo, like on the old S60 R, although there are a few distinctions. The vertical bar on the letter R is missing, and the portions of VW’s new letter don’t join together.
We’ll first see Volkswagen’s new R logo on the upcoming Atlas Cross Sport later this week. From there, it’s likely we’ll see it on future R-Line models. That means most of the brand’s crossovers, like the Tiguan, Atlas and impending Tarek. The Jetta and Passat also have R-Line variants. Speaking of “R-Line”, it’s not immediately clear whether there will be some distinction, bearing in mind the extra text on the sub-R models.
Will we see it on the upcoming Volkswagen Golf R? Probably, but not for awhile yet. Volkswagen is skipping the 2020 model year. Stay tuned for more updates!
