Seven Ton Drag Race: Wrangler vs. Hummer vs. X3 Showdown! [Video]

It’s a drag race of mammoth proportions in this mile-high Wrangler vs. Hummer vs. X3 drag race!

After a quintessential, show-covered Christmas here in the Centennial State, we’re back with more great videos to kick off the new year properly! Today, as the mercury rises and the snow recedes, we took the opportunity to head to the track for a drag race. But this isn’t any ordinary drag race. It’s a drag race of (quite literally) mammoth proportions! Of course, that’s mainly because of one contender. It’s TFLcar’s newest family member – a 2003 Hummer H2 – versus the new Jeep Wrangler and the BMW X3 xDrive30i. The Hummer weighs 3 1/2 tons all by itself, coming in at 6,400 pounds. The Jeep and BMW are pretty closely matched in terms of weight, at a bit over two tons each. In this aptly-named “WTF Drag Race”, we have seven tons of steel rolling down the IMI Motorsports track!

Meet the contenders – 2003 Hummer H2, 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL, 2018 BMW X3 xDrive30i

After we plow the remnants and snow and ice off the track, the showdown can begin! Our competition starts with the hulky H2 squaring off against the modern Jeep Wrangler. In the Hummer’s corner, we have 6.0 liters of American firepower coursing through an archaic four-speed automatic transmission. On the Wrangler’s side, the perennial powerplant makes another appearance in the form of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. The Hummer puts out 316 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, to the Jeep’s 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft.

The winner of our American drag race domination challenge gets to take on the European new boy. Coming all the way from Bavaria (by way of Spartanburg, South Carolina), we have the new BMW X3 xDrive30i! Under the hood of this Munich maverick is a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder heart. Making 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, it is the lease powerful car here.

So who will win? The breakdown is actually more interesting than you might think. It’s eight cylinders versus six cylinders versus four (turbocharged) cylinders. The Hummer’s the most powerful, but by far the heaviest. The Jeep has a modern eight-speed automatic, while the BMW has weight on its side.
