Generally, when the car’s roof top comes down, the interest and the price go up. And this is the case with the unveiling of the 2016 Chevy Camaro SS Convertible. Chevrolet has not released pricing information yet, but you can now see the latest droptop in all of its glory.
Chopping the roof off comes with a set of challenges in both styling and engineering departments. The styling and design appear on the right track as the droptop mimics the coupe profile when the top is closed. The engineering is all there as well. Both the 2016 convertible and the coupe are around 200 pounds lighter than their predecessors.
The soft-top comes with several handy and stylish features. You can operate it remotely with the key fob. The latches release and secure automatically. You can drop the top at speeds of up to 30 mph, so there is no need to stop. There is a hard tonneau cover that hides the top when it’s down. These features are the same as those on the C7 Corvette Convertible. It’s functional and adds a healthy doze of style.
The power trains remain the same as in the 2016 Camaro coupe.
Engine | Power | Torque |
2.0L I4 DI turbocharged | 275 hp @ 5,600 rpm | 295 lb-ft @ 3,000 rpm |
3.6L V6 DI | 335 hp @ 6,800 rpm | 284 lb-ft @ 5,300 rpm |
6.2L V8 DI | 455 hp @ 6,000 rpm | 455 lb-ft @ 4,400 rpm |
The 2.o-liter turbo and the 3.6-liter V6 can be ordered with either a 6-speed Tremec TR3160 manual or an 8-speed Hydra-Matic 8L45 automatic. The big V8 also gets two transmission options, but they are up-rated 6-speed Tremec TR6060 manual and the 8-speed Hydra-Matic 8L90 automatic.
The 2016 Chevy Camaro Convertible will be available in the early 2016.
