Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction from Scottsdale, AZ offers many surprises for any automotive enthusiast. 2014 Edition was no exception with some of the bidding going well beyond expectations.  The finals bids brought in what most experts are saying will exceed 2013’s total of nearly $109 million. Over this past week, there were several record setting bids with the Corvette dominating the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction.
It is noteworthy that Barrett-Jackson has a long history of offering the opportunity of bidding on cars with proceeds going to a specific charity. Well over $60 million dollars has been raised over the years. There are several charities participating this year and final bids for the specialty vehicles coming in above their expectations.
Top 5 selling cars of 2014:
1) This 1967 L88 Corvette, the only one know built in red with red interior, fetched a record $3.85 million!
2) Following was this 1969 L88 “Rebel” Corvette, final price of an outstanding $2.6 million!
3) Michael Schumacher’s 1988 Ferrari F1 test car caught a lot of attention from spectators and bidders. Even after hitting the top reves during the cars testing days, a lucky buyer slapped down a cool $1.7m
4) Carrol Shelby is known world wide for taking small european car bodies and bolting in some big Amercan horsepower. No exception is this Cooper Monaco King Cobra, the only know one in existence. Price-$1.65 million.
5) Finally, there was celebrity judge and recording producer Simon Cowell’s 2008 Bugatti Veyron. With only 1300 miles on the clock, the factory has backed up the sale with a one year warranty. Hammer drop price, $1.375 million.
Also, it’s worth to mention three brand new muscle cars that also sold this weekend with proceeds going to charity.
The top selling charity car was for the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans, 2014 COPO Chevrolet Camaro. The first of only 69 non-street legal drag Camaros that will be built fell for an astounding $700,000!
First production 2014 Chevrolet Camaro z/28 brought in $650,000.
And first production 2015 Ford Mustang GT scored $300,000 for charity.
