The 2013 Indianapolis 500 will go down in history as one of this most exciting with numerous, risky lead changes. Tony Kanaan battled to win the Indianapolis 500 with rookie Carlos Munoz, second and former IndyCar champion Ryan Hunter-Reay third. The lead was contested several times in the last 100 laps with 28 lead changes among nine drivers.
Unfortunately, the race finished under a yellow caution.
Out of the 97 Indianapolis 500 races, this was one of the most extreme in terms of lead changes. Unfortunately, there were cautions late in the race which dialed back the overall excitement. Still, the Brazilian Tony Kanaan deserves congratulations for running an aggressive, yet smart race.
