The new partnership between eBay and General Motors is a test to see if the car builder can make new car sales work using the computer instead of the salesmen.
But don't be fooled. The GM eBay partnership will not allow consumers to purchase cars directly from GM, instead online shoppers are buying the car from a small group of California dealerships.
“There’s clearly an appetite on behalf of consumers to be able to negotiate price and purchase vehicles online,” EBay Motors Vice President Rob Chesney.
The GM eBay online auction site is set-up let shoppers "buy it now" or they can use of the more traditional eBay model that lets tech savvy buyers make an offer on the new car.
"GM and our dealers are reinventing the car buying experience," Mark LaNeve, GM vice president of U.S. sales said.
