The 2019 Honda Passport Is Making a Comeback After 16 Years

Honda aims to round out its crossover lineup by reviving an old name

Those of you who were hoping for Honda to revive the Passport name, we have some good news. Prior to the LA Auto Show kicking off next week, the company just teased the 2019 Honda Passport. The accompanying video doesn’t reveal a whole lot, but we can infer a fair amount of information from what we are able to see.

Off-road ready?

One of the more obvious pieces of this teaser is the fact that Honda is showing the Passport tearing up a dirt road. Although, there is no serious off-roading here. We’re sure that the 2019 Honda Passport will have at least some off-road capability. Will it be a rock-crawler? Likely not, but it may be capable of handling some light to moderate trails.

This makes sense, too, given the original Passport’s 4×4 capability. That Passport was essentially an Isuzu Rodeo with some Honda Badges. It had a shift-on-the-fly 4×4 system and 8.5-inches of ground clearance. We’ll have to wait and see what kind of off-road goodies Honda decides to give to this new Passport.

Somewhere Between Pilot and CR-V

We don’t know any specific dimensions on the new 2019 Honda Passport just yet, but we do know where it will fit into the Honda’s lineup of SUVs. The Passport should squeeze in between the CR-V and the Pilot in terms of size, and logically price as well. The CR-V, for reference, starts at around $24,000, while the Pilot starts near $31,000. For the Passport, a starting price somewhere in the mid-to-high twenties sounds entirely reasonable. Though, Honda has not given us any official information on pricing.

LA Reveal

This teaser is coming out just over a week before the 2018 LA Auto Show. Honda has told us that the 2019 Honda Passport will be making its debut on November 27, 2018 in LA. While the on-sale date has not been announced yet, we expect to see them hitting dealerships sometime in the first half of next year.
