Vision Mercedes-Maybach: Crossover Concept Teased Prior to Beijing Debut [News]

Mercedes provided their clearest peek yet at the new Maybach crossover concept just before the Beijing Auto Show.

Plutocrats of the world, take note – the Vision Mercedes-Maybach crossover concept is upon us. Well, nearly, as it’s set to debut tomorrow at Auto China 2018 in Beijing. Resplendent in “Ultimate Luxury” and Maybach badging, this particular concept wants to show onlookers it’s something special. While Maybach already produces some spectacularly over-the-top luxury sedans, crossovers are where the market demand is at right now. We know this because of the success of the Bentley Bentayga, and the impending arrival of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

There isn’t a whole lot of information available yet for the Vision Mercedes-Maybach concept. We get a clearer look at the front grille and lights, as well as a slight peek at the rear profile and interior, but that’s about it. We’d expect the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury – as it’s formally called – to house one of Mercedes’ last V12 powerplants. Across the Mercedes line, the V12 engine is disappearing. They’ve axed “600” models from the lineup, and they’re doing the same to the “65” line of twin-turbocharged 12-cylinder units. The new G-Class, for instance, is sticking with a 4.0-liter V8, at least for now. However, Rolls-Royce still runs with a 12-cylinder engine, as does Bentley. Mercedes has yet to reveal official powertrain information, however.
