The 2016 Cadillac CT6 is the brand’s all-new flagship model aimed at cars like the BMW 5- and 7-series and the Mercedes-Benz S-class.

The car has an all-new architecture that emphasizes low mass while also providing structural rigidity where needed. It uses a combination of lightweight materials and clever engineering to reduce weight while still providing luxury-car solidity.

The chassis is a rear-drive architecture that is also available in all wheel drive. In all wheel drive form, the CT6 also gets active rear steering for a tighter turning radius and better handling at speed. All wheel drive is standard in V-6 models.

Under the hood is one of three engines. The base engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 265 horsepower. The mid-level engine is a 3.6-liter V-6 making 335 horsepower, and the top-of-the-line engine is a 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6 making 400 horsepower. All are mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

Outside, the CT6 was designed to look athletic, with a low, wide stance and short overhangs. The front tires were moved as far out and forward as possible, to give the illusion of a car ready to launch.

Inside, the CT6 has all of the luxury expected in a car in this class and price range. The rear seats are designed to coddle the occupants, with plenty of room to stretch out and integrated screens that pop out of the back of the front seats to allow passengers to control the entertainment system.

Speaking of entertainment, the CT6 has a 34-speaker Bose audio system that can be set for driver mode, where the sound is concentrated toward the driver; rear passenger mode, where the sound is concentrated toward the rear; and center-point surround sound mode.

The new flagship CT6 will be in dealerships on March 1. Starting price for a 2.0-liter, rear-wheel-drive model is right around $54,000, with the top-level model with all options starting at around $83,000.
