Spied on Video: Porsche 918 Spyder prototype High Altitude Testing in Colorado

Porsche 918 Spyder prototype caught High Altitude Testing in Colorado

We caught not one, not two, but three 2014 Porsche 918’s Spyder prototypes high altitude testing in the Colorado Mountains.

The new and upcoming hybrid Porsche 918 may be the worst kept secret in the sports car automotive world but we were fortunate enough to capture three of the 800 horspepower cars testing at about 12,000 feet above sea level in Colorado.

Check out the classic Martini racing kit as well as the other designs of what will certainly be a classic very expensive Porsche Hybrid in the years to come.

With one gasoline powered engine and 2 electric motors the new 918 is a technology showcase for Porsche. “This is a hybrid-powered super-car with a 121 horsepower electric motor assisting in powering the rear wheels AND a 107 horsepower electric motor powering the front wheels. The front motor is a helper that disengages at about 16 mph. Add to that a  570 hp, 4.6-liter V8 as the main motivator and you have nearly 800 horses prancing off the line. The power peak is supposed to be around 9,000 rpm!” TFLCar 9/20/12

But in order for the cars to hit the showrooms Porsche has to make sure that it performs flawlessly in every possible condition and that includes two miles above sea level.

Check out this video as we get out of breath hunting the newest Porsche 918 Spyder in the wild.
